Jim Bowie, Jim Bowie...He Was A Bold Adventurin' Man!
This show was a network offering in the mid fifties, and its star SDcott Forbes was hardly a typical western star. In fact, he was a British actor...go figure! Of couse back in the early days of TV they had no problem glamorizing the frontier legends. In reality Jim Bowie was a bad guy...a slave trader and a thorough scoundrel. Getting killed at the Alamo made him a legend and he's been lionikzed for profit ever since. This was a common occurance in the early days of TV where only clean cut heroes could exist.... all clean shaven, cleaned and pressed! It's a fun show though, and it showed how easy you could make some money in television back then if you had the contacts.
